Fr. Ruel Desamparado was born on 13th December 1978, the Feast day of St. Lucy, in the island of Bantayan (142.7KM Northwest of Cebu), Philippines. He entered the Rogationist Seminary of Cebu on May 28, 1995, accompanied by his parents, Petra Necesario (+ March 9, 1996) and Rolando Desamparado (+ November 17, 2015). After 14 years of studies and formations, he was ordained priest on August 22, 2009 by then the Bishop of Balanga, Socrates B. Villegas (currently the Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan, Philippines). Before being ordained a priest and while still a deacon, he was assigned as the Vocation Director of the Rogationist Seminary – Cebu, Punta Princesa, Don Bosco Village, Cebu, from the year 2009 to 2015. After six years as a Vocation Director, Fr. Ruel became a guest priest for two years in the Archdiocese of Cebu while attending to his ailing father that time. Fr. Herman Abcede, rcj, the Provincial Superior that time recalled Fr. Ruel back to the Congregation and appointed him as the Administrator of St. John Paul II Sub-Parish (Diocese of Digos), Inawayan, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur (Mindanao, Philippines), from 2017-2023.
Fr. Ruel simply loves playing football. He initiated the Rogate Football Club in the Rogationist Seminary –Cebu. While administering the Sub-Parish in Davao del Sur, he organized football tournaments for the young people in the area. During the Pandemic, he learned fishing with the local fishermen in the Parish and it became part of his passion and hobby. On his personal time, he loves to listen to music, plays the guitar and sings videoke songs.
Fr. Orville Cajigal, RCJ, the current Provincial Superior, appointed him as the Assistant Priest of St. Mel’s Parish. This is his first missionary experience. `The Purpose of our Life is a Life of Purpose! Fr. Ruel quoted this phrase most often. He hopes that in this new journey, he will find God’s purpose and will enjoy more his priestly ministry with the faithful of St. Mel’s Parish in the Diocese of Sandhurst, Australia! Rogate ergo!
